12th Grade Assessments: 12th Grade IB students will complete 100% of the IB assessment this year. This requirement includes: - Paper One: A document-based paper will constitute 20% of this assessment. - Paper Two: Two essays will constitute 25% of the assessment - Paper Three: This will consist of three essays based on regional options for 35% of the assessment. - Historical investigation (Internal Assessment) 20%
All Students will also take quizzes, in-class essay exams, including document-based questions, as well as multiple-choice exams throughout the course. Students may also give graded oral presentations each semester. High School class grades and International Baccalaureate assessment scores are independent of one another. HHS scores are granted by the teacher and do not affect student scores for IB assessments for the purpose of earning an IB Diploma or credit for the individual IB course.

History of the Americas – The Course: History of the Americas is part one of a two-year higher-level International Baccalaureate course. This course is a systematic and critical study of the human experience, including social, economic, political and cultural events through the 19th and 20th centuries -- providing historical explanations from an international perspective.
Students will be expected to study the histories on a selection of countries and themes within the chosen region. For example: we will analyze the Great Depression in the US, Canada, and Latin America -- The Americas. The study of a country’s national history will be in the comparative, regional framework of the History of the Americas.
In this course, students are required to:
Comprehend, analyze, evaluate, and integrate source material critically as historical evidence.
Explain different approaches to, and interpretations of historical events and topics.
Place events in their historical context.
Explain the causes and effects of historical continuity and change.
Present arguments that are clear, coherent, relevant, and well-substantiated.
Present historical explanations from an international perspective.
Plan, organize, and research an individual historical investigation.
Demonstrate an in-depth historical understanding of approximately 100 years of history from the region of the Americas.
To demonstrate historical understanding through the acquisition, selection, and effective use of knowledge.
To identify and evaluate different approaches to, and interpretations of, historical events and topics.
